Fire Cider: A Holistic Immune Boosting Tonic
Fire cider is such a staple in our house and this year I’m sharing my recipe with you for the coming months and years ahead.
This holistic immune boosting tonic named Fire Cider is packed full of immune boosting foods. Each of these foods in its own right has some amazing healing properties and holistically support the body as whole with not just individualized compartments of healing. Fire Cider is a must have for basically everyone.
You may be asking yourself what is fire cider?
Well fire cider is a oxymel which means it’s a mixture of vinegar and honey (eventually honey that gets put in after it has infused). This little jar of goodness carries a host of health benefits that include: immune support, digestive support, circulation support, inflammation support, antibacterial support. antiviral support, and decongestion support. Along with the added benefits of fighting free radicals, rich in Vitamin A, Vitamin C and B vitamins.
This is such warming tonic as well that really encourages the body to do self healing in the spaces it needs it.
You are using a multitude of ingredients in this fire cider to support whole body wellness and the added benefit is that this is something you are making for yourself and your family with your own two hands instead of purchasing off a shelf. No two fire ciders are ever the same, just like no two sourdough starters are ever the same.
I always try to make my fire cider at the start of autumn so it will be ready by the time the cold air sneaks its way in. This will need to sit in a cool dark place for about 4 weeks before it is ready to be used.
Ingredient Breakdown:
Before reading the below ingredients I want you to know how versatile fire cider truly is. You can add and take away ingredients as you see fit. The ingredients in this fire cider is just what I used for my recipe this year. Feel free to change it u
Apple Cider Vinegar: Always use organic unfiltered ACV with the mother when making fire cider at home. ACV is said to contain anti microbial properties, help balance blood sugar levels, may help with digestive issues, high in B vitamins, anti-inflammatory properties, and since it is fermented contains probiotics that are helpful to your gut.
Lemon: Contains vitamin c, antioxidants, and may aid in immune system recovery and digestion.
Orange: Combats free radicals, contains antioxidants, fiber, potassium, B vitamins, vitamin c, copper, and anti-inflammatory properties.
Jalapeno Pepper: Rich in vitamin A, vitamin C, and potassium. Contains capsaicin which is a anti-inflammatory property.
Cinnamon Chips or Sticks: High in antioxidants which helps calm down the free radicals in our body. Also cinnamon is beneficial for maintaining proper blood sugar (hence why Ceylon cinnamon makes an appearance every morning in my coffee).
Garlic: Anti-inflammatory properties, antimicrobial properties, may help heart health, and there are several studies that have proven that garlic can also help blood pressure.
Ginger: Anti-inflammatory, anti nausea, calming to the digestive system, may help heart health, blood sugar, and liver function. Also ginger is a great item to help your body gently detox toxins out of it.
Turmeric Powder: Rich in pythonutrients, this orange powder may help fight free radicals in your body while helping a host of health issues that range from anxiety and depression to digestive disorders and respiratory infections.
Rosemary: Has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidant compounds.
Thyme: Rich in vitamin A and vitamin C.
Fire cider is such an ingredient powerhouse and the items that were picked for this Fire Cider specifically pack a literal punch. I wanted ingredients full of vitamin A, vitamin C, antimicrobial, antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties along with helping the gut. Obviously you can add and take away as you see fit with Fire Cider but this combination is an amazing one backed by my own research.

*feel free to add or take away ingredients as you see fit. If I had access to fresh cranberries or fresh elderberries those would have been added!
I take about 2 tbsp 3-4 times a day when needed. This mixture could also be added to a soup base, in rice, into dressing, as a marinade, really whatever you want it to become that is exactly what your Fire Cider can become.
